My little corner of calm

Hi there, and welcome!

I’m so glad you’ve stumbled across my little crochet corner on the internet. My name is Louise, and I’m the heart (and yarn-covered hands) behind Wired for Crochet.

This space started as a simple idea—just a place to share my love of crochet. But very quickly, it has become something more. It is a passion project, a source of joy, and a way to find a little calm in the chaos of everyday life.

Let me tell you a bit about me…

From the Classroom to Crochet

Once upon a time, I was a full-time primary school teacher. I poured my heart into helping little minds grow. But life has a way of twisting and turning, and a couple of years ago, I had to step away from teaching due to my health. I'm a single mum and live with fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that affects my entire body—mobility, pain, fatigue, focus—you name it. Some days are good. Some days are harder than I’d like to admit. But crochet has become my anchor.

Why Crochet?

Crochet has become more than just a hobby. On my “good” days, it gives me something to focus on. It quiets my mind, soothes my anxiety, and gives me that beautiful sense of accomplishment that I often struggle to find elsewhere. On my harder days, it’s something gentle I can pick up when I’m ready, without pressure.

One of the best things about crochet is that you can stop and start as life allows. As long as I remember what row I was on and which hook I used (a notebook and stitch markers are my best friends), I can always return to a project without feeling lost.

Wired for Real Life

I’ll be honest, I’m not always consistent. Fibromyalgia doesn’t let me be. Some days, I hyperfocus on a big project and forget to eat lunch. Other days, my body aches too much or my brain just won’t cooperate, and I can’t concentrate on anything at all. That’s why I love offering a variety of patterns: some quick and simple, others a bit more involved, depending on what your day (and mine!) looks like. If you're someone who also needs short, manageable projects to feel that sense of joy and completion, you're in the right place.

A Place for Community

I’m not just here to post patterns and pretty pictures. I want Wired for Crochet to be a community—a place for people like me (and maybe like you?) to connect, support, and share with each other.

Got ideas? Struggling with a pattern? Want to recommend ergonomic hooks that help with hand pain? Please reach out! Kindness is the rule here. I live with anxiety and depression, so encouragement means the world to me, and I promise to return the favour whenever I can.

Let’s be real: I’m someone who wants to be social, but then gets anxious about talking to others and making plans. I’m an introvert who loves people, a researcher who sometimes acts on impulse, a calm rock for others who still panics over laundry disasters. I live day to day, and some days are messy. But I always try.

Why This Website?

Honestly? I started this website as a way to share what I love, and hopefully, sell a few pieces or patterns to help cover my yarn habit (fibromyalgia doesn’t pay well, but wow, yarn can be expensive). Building this site has given me a sense of purpose again. It's been a challenge, but also a boost to my confidence, anxiety and all.

If you've ever struggled to find your thing… I get it. I hope crochet might bring you a bit of calm, joy, or even just a way to get through the day, like it has for me.

Join Me

So if you’re here for patterns, inspiration, or just to be part of a kind, yarn-loving crew, you are so welcome. I may not post daily. I may disappear on the tough days. But I’m always here, quietly stitching away in the background, cheering you on.

Let’s create something beautiful—one stitch at a time.

With love and yarn,

Louise
